Director of New Media Research and Evaluation, The Exploratorium
Sherry's research centers around computer-supported collaborative learning and
the design of social contexts for learning mediated by technology. She has
addressed this research in two areas. In one area, she has investigated the
design of electronic discussion to support scientific discourse and equity in
learning. In a second area, she has been designing and studying the uses of
distance learning and netcourses to support the development of exemplary teacher
practices. She is particularly interested in how networked technologies can be
used to facilitate productive social exchanges that lead to deeper inquiry,
reflection, and assessment. More recently, Dr. Hsi is exploring learning
contexts mediated by low-cost, wireless pocket computers.
