Topiary - Design Examples

Tour Guide and Nearest Friend Finder

This design enables a tourist (Bob) to tour a college campus. The prototype shows a map representing current location of people and things. It can help the tourist find ways to the places of interest by showing the shortest path. The prototype also allows the tourist to conduct location-aware information retrieval. In addition, it can help the tourist find nearby friends.

Context-Aware Reminder

This prototype allows a user (Bob) to setup a reminder for a certain context. For example, the user can set "Remind me ... when I meet Alice in Cafe". Once Bob meets Alice in Cafe, the prototype will automatically popup a reminder page to him.

Searching Available Room

This prototype allows a user to find an available (or empty) room in a building. It also shows the user a searching progress and the way to the available room if any.

In/Out Board

In/Out board displays who is currently in Room 523 and when they last entered or left this room.

Thing Finder

This prototype helps a user to find the lost wallet. It has two views: textual and graphical views. The prototype can adjust the precision of output based on the proximity extent to the wallet.

Car Navigation

This design intends to help drivers to find ways to places of interest when driving. The prototype can automatically remind the driver when the car gets close to a place.
